nobody cares about people who have to pay higher bills. we are trying to save the earth from carbon dioxide, which was of course around in far greater concentrations before humans existed.

Indeed. It does tend to accompany mass extinctions, doesn't it?

Who among us is willing to pay more in order to fix a problem that doesn't exist and if it did exist, could not be fixed?
We have coal and we have oil yet Obama will bankrupt America and continue our dependency on foreign oil in the name of climate change. The kicker is that the climate changes, if any, will be negligible. What is not in doubt is that businesses will shut down or move away, jobs will be lost by the millions and we'll pay higher costs for everything. Fortunately, Americans are beginning to wise up and BHO will be out of our lives in short order.

this climate bill is part of a pan to save ourselves from mass extinction by natural earth processes. man, paying a bit extra for electricity is worth it!

We are an Earth species. What we do here is a natural earth process, too. But its one that we actually can control.

yeah, i dunno about that one either. people tend to love obama. he will still be half black in 2012.
oh yes we humans can control everything. if something is "wrong" with the earth, we caused it. we ate from the tree in the garden of eden, and now this. now lets find salvation.

As evidenced by this last election, when people are fed up with the incumbent, they'll put anything in there.
Suppose I tell you there's some junior senator out there you that never heard of that will come out of nowhere and make a spash in national politics. Sound familiar?

Maybe we should just stop breathing. I mean, since when you exhale, you let out carbon dioxide. That works. Let's all just stop breathing. Oh, and let's cut down all the trees and pave all our yards with concrete since the plants live off carbon dioxide.

Fail. You aren't concerned with the exponential spike of CO2 that coincided with the industrial revolution?

What about the exponential spike of money in peoples' pockets?

I have never studied the climate change issue. There seems to be no doubt that the earth is warming in the last hundred years. The question is, is this a natural cycle of the earth (which has happened before) or is this different and is it caused by man's activity, specifically the carbon age that started in the 19th century with the widespread burning of coal for heat and then use of the gas engine to power cars and trucks.
I do not know the answer. I spent most of my time trying to beat the stock market, which I have done easily over the last 10 years. If I'm not going to do the research NECESSARY to hold an opinion, I won't just render one based on something someone else told me, especially what any political party told me about a fundamentally scientific issue. I could be in the minority here, but I doubt it. I think it is unfortunate for folks to assert that they know something when they have just "listened" to someone else and not actually made the effort to find the first hand research and read it on BOTH sides, the pro and the con, to see what is said and evaluate it. What I see is the president asking people to make a sacrifice, but not explaining to the people WHY they need to sacrifice. The energy plan is going through congress, but it is not being explained to the people. That's the problem. We should have a mini-series on TV, with the best of the climatologists, a 3 person team of pro and cons on made made climate change. It should be well organized formal debate. Let is last 3 nights or 5 or whatever it takes. Have opening statements, rebuttals, discussion, and closing arguments. I doubt that congress has seen this done. Then lets vote. Maybe Red or someone can point us to a good pro AND a good con link and we can all go read.

That led to progress, and at some point it was decided that we would be more prosperous as a nation if we made money imaginary. Inflation was embraced and we really got a lot of jingle in our pockets. Now as a nation we've found out that a lot of the money we thought we had is complete bs. |

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) concludes that increasing greenhouse gas concentrations resulting from human activity such as fossil fuel burning and deforestation are responsible for most of the observed temperature increase since the middle of the 20th century. These basic conclusions have been endorsed by more than 45 scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries.

the united nations has some scientists that have weighed in. why a political body like the united nations has any business meddling with science, i have no idea. they have better things to do, like ignoring rwandan genocides or looking away as france makes deals with saddam.

![]() I get my opinion from reading newsapaper articles about the debate and from listening to the various pundits who feel that they have an informed opinion. I'll be damned if I'm going to pore over scientific journals in order to find out what common sense tells me to be the case. And if you find that to be unfortunate, well, too bad. Maybe Red can help you.
