Yeah, I don't see the problem with it either. Everybody, "conservative" or "liberal" is not cool with seeing career criminals or thugs be able stockpile an impressive array of artillery. I'd think that the "conservatives" would be the ones trying to crack down on allowing criminals to have guns. For example, I know a big gun shop that got busted by the feds because they were forging documents to sell guns to shady characters. And I know that, under some federal criminal law (and probably many state criminal laws as well), if you use a gun to commit crime, your sentence gets doubled. And of course, I'm pretty sure that every jurisdiction in the US makes it illegal for a felon to possess a firearm. What's wrong with all that?

As for this bill Sabanfan is talking about, he concludes that:

Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:

-It is registered -You are fingerprinted -You supply a current Driver's License -You supply your Social Security # -You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing -Each update - change of ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail. -There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun must be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18. -They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. In prison.

Ok? And? What's wrong with making people register their firearms? Do you have something to hide? What's wrong with people getting fingerprinted? If everybody was fingerprinted, it would be a lot easier for the police to solve crimes. I remember back in the boy scouts, we voluntarily got fingerprinted at public fairs to set a good example. As for that mental eval, it's not that hard to pass a mental eval unless you're just a lunatic (in which case, you probably shouldn't be allowed to possess firearms). As for reporting change of ownership of firearms, what is wrong with that? What do you have to hide? Now as for how that gun must be locked and inaccessible if you have children, I've seen how that is controversial. On one hand, you have many people who have children that got in horrific accidents because their parents didn't hide the gun from them well enough (I have a friend like this). On the other hand, you have many people that have been burglarized who weren't able to defend themselves because their gun was locked and inaccessible.

When I read and hear comments about guns, people always discuss saving lives and safety. I don't think you'lll find many people who would disagree these are valid concerns.

The problem I have is the people (politicians) who talk safety are usually the same people who want complete gun control and/or remove your right to bear arms.

The "pushback" you get is from people who believe "gun safety" is a guise for their ultimate goal...removal of the right to bear arms.

If we don't need guns I guess politicians don't need body guards.

I'm not willing to hand over my country to a handful of politicians especially the liberal nut variety!

Gun control is only a way to inconvenience law abiding citizens and nothing more. Criminals don't walk into gun shops and legally purchase firearms registered in their name. Gun control laws don't apply to them because their guns are not legally purchased. What's the point of legislation to curb crime by not allowing criminals to legally buy guns when they generally get them illegally anyway? How about some tougher sentencing for gun related crimes with extra time if the gun is illegal?

there is no chance for complete gun control. there may be a few national pols that want it, but they are insignificant

simpletons that allow their views on an issue to be swayed by this rationale are gullible, manipulated by politicians and buy into crackpot conspiracy theories.

perhaps youre argument would have more merit if it based more on issues and less on politics.

Here we go again. If we don't walk in a straight line and submit to everything the liberals want...we're conspiracy theorists, trouble makers, idiots, criminals, and anti-American Nazis.

Are we in 1930's-1940's Germany?

The only way you'll get criminals to register their weapons is if you send ACORN out to their supporters!

You are citing several high profile cases of gun violence that we all know of. You and I both know that the vast majority of gun violence isn't of this type or scope; it a street thug, gang banger, or drug dealer totin' a gat. One that's not legally obtained or registered.

There's also a large amount of gun crimes committed during domestic violence and many of those are with registered legal guns. So maybe the guns are the problem and not the mental defectives who stay in bad relationships or the swell guys who beat up their wives, right? It must be the guns. Yeah, that's it. The criminals aren't responsible for their crimes, the guns are. Thank you for enlightening me.

Making it illegal or harder to get your hands on a gun isn't going to make gun-related crime go away or even put a significant dent in it. I don't need stats to tell me that. People that break the law with guns aren't going to suddenly stop having guns if it becomes illegal. They break the law by shooting people...what makes you think they won't break the law to get a gun? The reasoning behind this silly debate on whether or not we should have the right to have them is impossible to defend. The fact that there is even a question blows my mind.

So the people that want us have little to no restriction on how guns are bought/sold/owned are the same people that think there is problem with how this country is too liberal with how guns are bought/sold/owned. Fascinating.

The Second Amendment will play no part in salvaging and defending the American Ideal. If that were the case, the Bill of Rights would never have been trashed the way it has.

Nope. Respect for the entire Bill of Rights must be enforced. Unfortunately, folks who champion the First and Second Amendments do not champion the other Amendments,

no. if you dont form an opinion on an issue based on relevant issues instead of ignorant and irrational fears then you are bad americans.

did you see the post i was replying to? im pretty sure i am right that criminals do buy guns legally. now, perhaps in the examples i cited (and that was off the top of my head, i have no strong interest in the issue) the criminals were nt criminals when the got the guns, but that is part of the point. the laws arent enough. change them. enforce them. protecting peoples meaningless archaic liberties at the expense of 1000s of lives every year is immoral.

of course its not the guns. if i thought it was guns i wouldnt have any myself. but i am willing to forfeit my "right" to have a pistol or rifle with a clip because i think it would result in many fewer deaths. even if those deaths are drug related, gang related, wife-beater related.

Yeah, but they can't give an inch. Next you'll want to carry your howitzer concealed on a university campus . . .

I've never seen somebody as determined to make this difficult. I give up on you, hoss.

Oh my God!!!
The last time I checked America was a free country.
I believe the reason we marched into France through the bloody beaches of Utah and Omaha was to protect the other "free" souls of the world.
It scares me to death how some Americans just role over and "accept" the opression being cast on this country by the freedom destroyer's, (not liberals, or Democrats.) Many liberals and democrats dies and suffered to help keep the USA free for all.
I hope this "report guns deal on our tax returns" is just a big pile of misinformation. what, did you think I am irresponsible??
Child please!!
If there is truth to the rumor, I whole heartedly encourage all True Americans; Liberal, Conservative, Republican's & Democrats, Dogs & Cats!!! Resist! Resist! Resist!
I'd rather die an American with the guns in my hands, the way our forfathers wanted than to do what is reasonable or "okay" to the apathetic of our beautiful, free country.
Don't give up freedoms no matter how insignificant you may believe they are.
It's not too late!! YET!!!!!
God Bless America!!! One Nation Under God!!! I Pledge!!! Go Jesus...
Oh, Ole Miss GTH...
