To add he also said we are his leader right now but not looking to make an early decision.

It's naive to think that we'll land all of the greats from LA and chemistry is important as we saw with the 2006 FF team. Most of those LA kids had played together for along time. The Louisiana Select team has Galloway, Ludwig and Derenbecker--but would they consider going to the same school? Ludwig and Matt will both play for Country Day next year and you have to wonder if that'll play on their minds come commitment time. Pat Swilling plays for the HP Elite team, and so far not a lot of news on how they're doing... http://hpelite.com/pat.html Last edited by TGer'nLHornLand; 07-21-2008 at 08:56 AM.. |

If it wasn't already mentioned here, we should keep an eye on a kid named Aaron Dotson. The kid is a west coast kid hailing from none other than Seattle Washington, which is where Trent Johnson spent some good years.
The 6'4" SG is a recipient of another 2010 LSU offer. He's making some waves in Vegas. http://rivalshoops.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=829920 |

Although, one recent name that has LSU calling him is Patric Young, a 6-8 PF from FL who is likely to stay close to home. http://lsu.rivals.com/viewprospect.a...2&pr_key=83323 |

LSU is in the mix for 5* PG Phil Pressey out of Dallas. This kid can really pass the rock, drive, and create space in the lane.

Tremendous, folks. Talking bball recruiting for 2010!
![]() Yes, it's been a little while and again, Trent's crew has been busy behind the scenes. Lots of new names being reported by Rivals and Scout. The Phil Pressey article on Scout shows again, Trent is very interested in the guard play. Most of the recruits on the board in 2010 (as is the case in 2009) seem to be SGs, and to some extent SFs, and Pressley could be the engine that makes it go. Rivals lists him as #42 on their new Rivals 150 for 2010 and a four star (http://basketballrecruiting.rivals.c...10&ra_key=1909). Also, they generously list him at 5'10" 155, although judging from his highlight reel, he's closer to 5'6"-5'8". The guy can definitely penetrate and dish. But, who is he going to pass to? Langston Galloway continues to be the hope for 2010, but clearly the guy is playing the field. Galloway moves down on the new Rivals150 from #83 to #92, but new articles on Rivals shows that Indiana is now in the mix, b/c one of the assistant coaches there is in tight with Galloway's AAU coach. If Galloway falls through, Trent has his eye on several out of state guards, like McRae, Ross, and Johnson but like Galloway, they're getting the overtures from all the big schools. Trent also has several LA kids to offer in 2010, but has been selective (Brian Williams and Matt Derenbecker) so far. It'd be really nice to get some commitment started for CTJ in 2010 to get the ball rolling. As for other new names, you've got to recruit some big guys right? Tobi Oyedeji a slight 6-8, 190 4 star kid from Bellaire (Houston) TX, has gotten an offer from Trent, but leans towards Texas A&M. New big men names include Alex Gauna and Brandon Mobley, according to Rivals, as out of state guys listing interest from LSU. Until folks see the system and results from this new staff, I think it's still going to be touch and go. I'd love to see 2009 get going with a few nice names committing (right now, it's still Dotson, Reese, Fields and Ludwig) which will set the tone for Trent's recruiting success. Here's more on Phil Pressey. Man, that would be a huge get for Trent in 2010, considering the number of talented SGs and wings that Trent and staff are looking at in '10.
http://insider.espn.go.com/ncb/recru...ruitId%3d44099 An interesting trend now in college and the pros is going to the smaller PGs. This is I think really gained a lot more favor recently b/c of Chris Paul. A sub 6' footer who is lightning quick and can break down a d is so disruptive on the court and difficult to defend. You see in the SEC that Florida has gone to Jai Lucas to fill this role and Gary Ervin has also caused LSU fits in the past. LSU was in on Tommy Mason Griffin until the changeover. Phil is looking at Texas, Louisville, Wake, LSU and Missouri. It's going to be stiff competition, but it's great to even be in the mix for someone like him from out of state. Perhaps Trent's record with Brevin Knight, a very similar style player is getting him some mileage. |

More news to keep the 2010 thread alive.
Right now, it seems that the darling of the SEC hoops recruiting world has shifted from Gainesville to Knoxville. Although you'd like to think Kentucky blood lines run deep, Billy G's style is pretty polarizing... he's never been a stellar recruiter. Billy D's youth on his team right now perhaps is working against him. But, Bruce Pearl seems to be getting on a roll. Some big names are committing to the Vols, including Josh Selby (turned down UCLA to go to Tenn) and a recruit that was in LSU's sights, Jordan McRae. What does this mean for LSU? Honestly, I still think LSU has unlocked potential. It's just going to take a year or two for recruits to see what Trent is offering. If Trent's style of play looks like he's described it, you can see how it may start to mirror a little bit what Florida and Tenn offer--more guard play, more uptempo play. What Trent adds is his ability to coach bigs, and he still gives a lot of attention to the guards. Hopefully recruits start to see that in this year's team. 2010 seems to be about locking in two LA players, Langston G. and Matt D. There's a lot of other spots to fill though, and you wonder who's going to step forward and start committing. In basketball folks commit fairly early--it hopefully can start with some of our LA kids early. ![]() |

With a little bit of '09 recruiting momentum, I think that kids are starting to notice LSU. My observation is the entire, new staff has been relentless on the recruiting trail. And, I think unlike last year, where really Butch and Chad probably did most of the heavy lifting (and you were wondering what John Treloar was doing), this year you can see that Trent, Keith, Donny and Brent are all working the scene. Keith and Donny are instrumental with the guards and Brent is working on bigs. Trent is all over the place seeing folks. So, I think this bodes well for LSU.
Case in point, '10 is perhaps the chance for Trent to land a top 10 kind of class, if things pan out for the new look Tigers who have several schollies to give. Clearly, it helps to have a banner year in LA for shooting guards and wings. LSU remains interested and close to Pat Swilling Jr., who is a dual sport guy--although most folks say he's more likely to play hoops in college with his bigger, but athletic, 6-3, 210 frame. http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=861501 It's also nice to see a little bit of comraderie between Swilling and Galloway, who play on the same AAU team--along with perhaps Kevin Brown, a '10 PG from Houston, who also plays on the team. You could see a nice LA combination of guards/wings signing with LSU among Langston, Pat, Matt D and/or Brian Williams (from Glen Oaks), developing a pretty nice set of guards/wings, to add depth to the Tigers' backcourt in '10. ![]() |

One of his reasons for coming down here was AFAIK to be close to his sick mother. Working a full time Asst. Coach job and taking care of your mother doesn't leave a bunch of time to be out there recruiting.

More news continues to come out on 2010 hoops recruiting and Trent's activities.
Rivals today reports on a less mentioned, but offer holding, SG Brian Williams out of Glen Oaks in Baton Rouge... http://lsu.rivals.com/content.asp?cid=863552. Williams holds offers from LSU and Oklahoma and other smaller LA schools, right now, and seems to have good upside. Right now, it seems that Langston Galloway and him lead for LA-SG recruiting attention. Also, another 3-star small forward, Stephen Baird out of San Antonio appears to have gotten a LSU offer, along with offers from a slew of other schools, including Kentucky, Texas, USC, Cal and others. At 6-7, 190 ish, Stephen compares favorably to another LA LSU recruit high on LSU's list, Matt Derenbecker. With that many schools in the game, no telling how high Baird is about LSU but Trent has made his fair share of TX offers (Pressey, Tobi O, and Baird). A lot of offers starting to flow for 2010. Clearly the staff is out there talking to folks. |

Looks like the staff is going to pursuit Tobi O. There's a new article on him on Tigerbait. We're gonna have to steal him away from Texas A&M, though.
He's 6-8 with a 7-5 wingspan. :o |

Anyone who has Rivals needs to go watch the new Brian Williams highlight tape. I'm extremely impressed.
I want him, Ludwig, and Pressey, and a couple of big men including Tobey O. Make it happen, Trent. ![]() |

). Clearly, Trent is going with a first come first serve mentality. He's recruiting LA hard, but he's also saying that LSU isn't waiting around for you to decide. That explains going after kids like Phil P and Toby O hard. 2010 has the makings of a very nice class, though, if one of the big dominos falls. ![]() |

Jordy is on record as asking Pressey's dad to tell his son to consider LSU (Pressey's dad is a Hornets assistant coach).
I'm not sure how that will pan out. ![]()
