Here are the knocks:

Texting sucks. I don't know if it's b/c I'm used to phone pad texting and now I am qwerty texting or if it just sucks. It will take some getting used to. I hear there is a keyboard upgrade that makes things easier called "better keyboard" or something like that. I would NOT text while driving if I were you using this phone. I tried to download the "better keyboard" for something like $3.99, but when I began the process, it asked for me to enter my name, address, cc info etc....it doesn't just add it to your phone bill. I was turned off by this and ended up not doing it.

Battery sucks. I used to have a flippin Motorola Razr before this so this is my first smartphone, but I'm told that all smartphones have shiit batteries. Compared to the Razr, it sucks bad......compared to other smartphones i.e. the iPhone, I'm told that it's very similar.

Voicemail sucks. I think, however it is just Cellular South's version of voicemail that sucks b/c a friend of mine has the same phone with Sprint and his voicemail on his HTC is similar to the iPhone where you can see who left the voicemail and play it, etc....Cellular South's voicemail module is way outdated or something. It sucks pretty bad.

An upgrade is supposed to be coming within the next few months to the Andriod Operating System. It should be able to fix alot of the small things and perhaps speed things up a little.

if i was buying now i would get a nexus one, purely for the faster processor.

If you're worried about battery life, get a Droid. The only time I ever run mine all the way down is playing video games during a 12 hour day in airports and on planes or taking a ton of pictures. You can play music, talk and text all day and you won't run out of batteries. Engadget has said that it blows the battery life of every other smartphone out of the water. My phone routinely almost outlasts 2 full charges on my friends' iPhones.

If you are thinking about getting a Nexus One, wait a month or so. That thing has way too many problems right now.

The blackberry pearl's battery is not all that great. I can't decide if I want the new blackberry (not sure which one) or the HTC. Texting on the Pearl is a pain, especially now that the trackball has a mind of it's own. Learning to text on a new phone is always a fun treat. And yes, Cellular South's voicemail is for the bird's.

I played on the one in Cellular South the other day again and made sure it would pull up this site, since my laptop is still broken, and will probably stay that way.

ive been doing a lot of reading of reviews on the droid. something hit me this evening looking at one. where as the accents on most phones i have seen are silver, the ones on the droid are gold. making the phone black and gold.

and one of the snap on silicone covers you can get for it is purple. making it a purple and gold phone.

now thats a phone that makes a fashion statement!

got it this evening and just now starting to play with it. but i think im in love. *sigh*

my old service absolutely sucked. reception in my house was not wonderful and part of my kitchen was a dead zone. my reception on verizon now is great.

Just got this phone today from Cellular South. I gotta say, it's a tiny little computer. The typing is a bit tough, but it's not near as bad as I thought. Tons of apps and pretty user friendly.

I updated to the new software, and for some reason my phone is dropping calls left and right. I can't seem to get a signal anywhere. I have Cellular South and they are notorious for shtty service, but it just seems too coincidental. Anyone else with a Hero having any problems with calls?

With the new software you can. You can get online at cell south and they'll have a link to d/l the new software. It has detailed instructions on how to back everything up. Except apps. YOu have to re-download apps and reinstall. It's a pain, but it is what it is.

I tried texting the Customer Service dept with the app provided, but all they kept telling me was to pull the battery. But I got tired of that and took it up to Cellular South and they wiped it. It works now, but it sucks that it happened that way.

i upgraded my android OS on my hero and it works better i guess, but i lost all my info and photos and such. i backed them up but it was a hassle. best to use google contacts so you can never lose them.
