College baseball is the least respected sport. Have you tried to find some news about college baseball at any of the major sports media outlets?
Maybe someone knows of some tiny, hidden away page at ESPN.com or CNNSI.com, etc but I haven't come across one. Pleas post the link if you have one. This is ridiculous. |

You have to go to moresports/collegesports...
Yes it is hidden and you will not find anything 'till post season comes around. There are only reports that you will find in The Advocate. (AP Wire) BUT OUR PICTURE IS ON THE FRONT PAGE.. (At Least It Is Today) http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/index |

When Warren Morris hit his 2-out, bottom of the ninth, down by a run, home run to beat Miami, I thought that ESPN would probably make it the top story of the day. I was shocked when the highlights came in the bottom half of the hour-long Sportscenter. Now that MLB is beginning to draft more college players, maybe it'll get a better following.

There is much more coverage than there was 10 years ago, but this will still take time to change. One of the major problems is that the dominant teams are in the south, southwest and west, while the major media markets are in the northeast and midwest. College baseball is just not strong in those areas of the country. Pushing back the start of the season may help, and getting teams like Notre Dame and Ohio St. into the super regionals and CWS will help, but it will take time for fans at those schools to catch on. Hell, it took fans at LSU a little while to catch on, and weather is not a factor down there. Going to a college baseball game in March when it is in the 30s is not that much fun. As attendance picks up across the country and interest at the northern schools increases, the media will follow. It takes time, though.

True, but a Michigan-Michigan State hockey game a few years ago was played before over 72,000 people in East Lansing. Also, I think ESPN devoted more coverage to the "Frozen Four" than they usually do for baseball. It will be interesting to see if the new 2 of 3 format for the CWS championship game helps or hurts media coverage.

In my opinion, College Baseball is about to make a huge impact on sports. For instance, 3 years ago, Baylor was ranked 8th highest in college baseball attendance at an average of something like 2500 per game. 8th in the NATION! (Yes, i know the box sells out a lot and holds a lot more...but yall's baseball tradition is much greater than anyone elses i've seen.) One year after that statistic was taken, BU attendance actually rose up to near 3000 per game, but instead we dropped in national rating to something like 15th. This year, our attendance will be ever higher but according to sources, we will probably be closer to 20th in the nation in attendance. While this is bad for Baylor, since we aren't ranked so high (our attendance can't go up a whole lot really quickly with the small school size), this is great for college baseball. IMO, in 10 years, there will be much much more college baseball on TV.

I love college baseball. I don't even watch MLB. College baseball is the only real baseball out there.

Fox SportsSouth is the only place to see regular season college baseball games. Hell, ESPN gives more coverage to the Little League World Series(including all regionals) than it does to college baseball. Explain that one to me?!

The only way for college baseball to get national press is for Notre Dame to advance to the CWS.

Tell me about it! One of my friends is the athletic trainer at Boston College--works with the football and baseball teams, and I went to one of their games (against Harvard) thinking that I would get a chance to see some decent college baseball. WRONG!
For starters, I felt like I was going to a little league game--no one charged at the gate--then again, there wasn't even a gate. There MIGHT have been 100 people in the stands (which were wooden bleechers similar to that of most high schools back in Louisiana). And the quality of the players on the field?? Well, BC won 24-6 and of the 18 guys on the field between BC and Harvard, there MIGHT have been 2 guys total that could have even made the Tiger roster. The SS for Harvard (batting .143--and I THOUGHT was in the game for his defense) committed a school record 6 OFFICIAL ERRORS through 8 innings! ....and he was lucky he didn't get another one--they were generous with the scoring. Bottom line is that outside of the south and out west, no one else really cares about college baseball. Just like we don't care about college hockey--but it's HUGE here in Boston. ![]()
