I'm going to get blasted for this but after careful consideration of the majority of posts on this boards as well as another I have this observation.
Much of the LSU fanbase does not conduct itself with the class one would expect from a quality program. Too many people here panic. Example 1: As I recall the mighty Nick Saban and his LSU team fresh off a National Championship were BOOED in Tiger Stadium in game one against Oregon St. (Classy, don't ya think?) Example 2: After losing to two top 5 teams on the road, LSU boards are in meltdown mode......Russell sucks, Miles sucks, Jimbo sucks......Landry sucks...... that's my favorite one......Landry sucks. Bench his ass.....he made a mistake. Don't we have someone riding the pine who never forgets to wrap up? Why not, you ask? Because Miles can't recruit, that's why.....(the lastest installment of madness pouring into your favorite LSU board.... ...ridiculous...) Saban was one smart dude.....punched his ticket in Tigertown and then got the hell out. Look for Jimbo and Pellini to be next. Anybody think we'll find better replacements? My point? Be thankful for the coaching staff we have....ride out a tough schedule and hope like hell the Miles grows into the job.....because who says the replacement is going to be any better. Right now 9-3 and a bowl win is not a bad year. That's what most reasonable people expected this year.....dumbasses. |

The coaching staff can only do so much.
Without rehashing what has been said on the board following yesterday's game, ultimately the players are responsible. The fumbles, INTs, muffed kicks, etc., fall squarely on the shoulders of the players. The thing that bothers me the most are some of the quotes from the players that they took their eye off the ball, didn't concentrate, lost focus, and the worst, that it wasn't meant to be. There are certain things that cannot be coached... The guys on the field have to execute and do what they're supposed to do. Let's hope this is the worst game we play all year. We've gotten the bad game out of our system. Could be that Florida is better than we all thought. I still believe that the Tigers can win out, and yes, that includes beating UT and Arky on the road. ![]() |

Exactly, not very many people here gave Miles a chance even before he started his first season. LSU could be the toughest team to coach for in terms of how quick the fans are bash on everyone. Anyone not named Saban is gonna get flamed, i give some credit to miles for at least hangin in there despite almost no fan support. |

This forum has a collection of some of the most knowledgeable LSU fans around. If you're here long enough it's fairly easy to separate them from those you would put in the dumbest fanbase category. |

unbridled passion + higher than ever expectations = rash behavior.
I disagree that LSU fans are dumb, but if by dumb you mean quick to panic then i'll agree with that. dumb is the wrong word b/c when it comes to football, you can actually find some of the smartest fans here.

But winning programs attract huge droves of fair-weather fans. Many of them are young, don't know much about football, but trumpet their opinions loudly. The 2003 National Championship brought out droves of fair-weather fans who seem to think LSU has a heaven-sent right to win every game. They scream for heads after every loss. They blame everybody but the team that beat us. LSU will still have a fine season at 10-2 or 9-3 and nobody has beaten us except top-10 teams. You just have to ignore the fair-weather types, in time they will get wise or they will just go away.

No doubt, a lot of LSU fans are quick to panic. However, I think there are some things happening that are putting people deeper into that mode than usual.
With that said, people don’t look at the other side of things. Everyone can say what they want about the class of LSU fans, but does everyone remember when we won the National Championship right there in New Orleans? How many riots, brawls or giant fires were started??? Yeah, that’s right, NONE. People said it would be mayhem if LSU won the NC, especially in New Orleans where everyone would be drunk and rowdy. How many times have we heard about the fires and riots that break out for some retarded reason after teams (college and pro) win championships? Yet, LSU fans were unbelievably well-behaved in a crazy environment where there were also a lot of OU fans mixed in. In fact, the paper said there were even fewer arrests than the previous year when it was just a regular Sugar Bowl and Georgia went. So you have to mix the good with the bad. You can’t stop some people from booing and we have some fans that are nuts. I remember that game against Oregon State and people were booing the play calling because we were running the ball on 3rd and long and time was starting to run out (the calls were pathetic). What do you know, they finally changed the QB late in the game and LSU somehow pulled it out thanks in part to JR. LSU isn’t even as tough as Florida to coach for and that’s not too difficult to see. They have booed Leak in a few games this year loudly on television and they are UNDEFEATED. This guy who has helped them get to where they are is getting booed. Hell, they wanted Zook fired before he was hired. Finally, I made some comments about Landry in another thread. However, I’m not one of the ones who said he sucks or anything. But let me say this loud and clear: LANDRY IS AN A$$$$HOLE ON THE FIELD. Now, hopefully my point is clear. It’s hard for me to say that because I love LSU so much and the players. The only difference between David Irons and LaRon Landry is one plays for Auburn and the other one for LSU. I realize trash talking is part of the game and Landry has always talked a little, but it’s getting out of hand now. He’s talking $hit after every play, including plays where he gets burned and makes the tackle 20 yards down the field. He’s always talking to guys while they’re on the ground through their helmet ear hole. It’s ridiculous. And let me say, I’ve seen him constantly jumping on piles and trying to late hit people and I’m sick of it. He’s lucky that most of the time he doesn’t get caught, but he has indeed been caught a few times. The guy is a great talent and he doesn’t need to represent LSU like that when he’s represented us well in the past. That is how I feel and I know others who have noticed the same thing. It’s not about him sucking. Although, he did get burned a few times yesterday and didn’t have a good game. That’s going to happen sometimes, but the other stuff is INEXCUSABLE. Peace. |

Ever fan base has its IDOITS. Ours just seem to ONLY come out after a tough lose because their lives are so ****ty they feel the need to make everyone else feel as ****ty as them.
But these people represent a SMALL amount of the fan base.

I don't like the blanket dumbass comment by flabengle. More on that in a second.
Downtown made some really good points in his post. I, for one, do not like all of the trash talking taking place now-a-days in college football. For years we've all talked about how classless miami's and FSU's teams were. I expect our players to let their performances speak for themselves. Don't make blanket derogatory statements about LSU fans. Our passion for LSU athletics runs deeper than 99.9% of all other universities. We plan our marriages, our children's births, literally our whole lives around LSU. What makes that even more amazing is the fact that a lot of us never attended a class at LSU. Most of us were raised by our fathers to love and follow LSU. The same as his father before him, and his father before him. Along with a lot of you, some of my first memories are of attending home games in BR, and listening to away games on AM radio. Flabengal, when you use the words..."most", and "majority" it kinda pisses me off. We police our own pretty well around here. If someone makes a comment that is out of line, we call him, or her on it. But don't bring your sorry ass on here and try to talk down to the single most greatest fan base in all of college football.

Give me break. We all just watched an infuriating performance, what with emotions running high and a little alcohol in the system, FANS are going to vent. It takes time, and then we calm down, a bit. I feel better than I did at 7pm on Saturday, fealt less sting this Sunday afternoon, and now I've accepted what happened out their on the field. I'm sure many of the rash opinions you may have read on Saturday have calmed quite a bit and most fans seem to want to analyse the situation in a calm and logical way, in the hopes of a solution.
