I know that the SEC games are on TV and the cupcakes are replayed on Cox, but with all of the interest in LSU football why aren't all LSU games shown live on local TV? or at least pay per view? There are only 91,000 tickets, but there are many more people who would like to enjoy the game. What happened to Tigervision? Didn't they used to show the games on a pay per view basis?

Probably because of existing contracts with CBS, ESPN and Jefferson Pilot. I don't know what happened to Tigervision.

Tigervision is used for the bigger games that don't get picked up for TV
If they put the small non-conf games on Tigervision they will insure it will not be a sell-out at the gate. Most of the non-conf games do not sell out as it is. (ULM and Tech should do better than some of the out of town directional school from recent years) I don't remember the cost for producing a Tigervision game, but I do remember that is was kinda pricey. I think there is a fear that broadcasting a non-conf game could reduce ticket sales and still not generate enough money to make it profitable.

Why don't they do something similar to the NFL and only show the game if it is a sell out. The game is already being filmed with broadcasters to replay on Cox it is just not live. Surely LSU and COX could join together and use this set up to save some expense. If the game sells out it would be also available live on Pay per view if is does not they just use the broadcast for the replay on Cox.

It would definitely be cheaper for the university to pay for the feed from Cox to show the games live. The only problem might come from the need for live production, which is a lot tougher than post-production and requires more labor.
I do think we need to get to the point where all games are sellouts before there's a guaranteed PPV, though. Only two of LSU's home games last year had attendance that reached capacity (Bama and Ole Miss). |

For a few years in the 1980's, TigerVison offered all Tiger games that weren't network picks. Joe Dean eventually stopped it because his research told him that it was hurting ticket sales. Indeed, there were a lot of empty seats in the endzones and upper deck. The number of no-shows during bad weather games increased, as well. If Nick keeps winning, those problems may go away.
LSU can always do a Tigervision game if it wants to. If there is a buck in it, "all games" will probably happen again. Email Skip.

Does anyone know which games will be on TV and which will not? My understanding is that all of the games will be broadcast live except for Monroe, W. Ill, and La Tech. Is that correct? Will any of the other 9 games not be shown live?

I got an email from Kevin Wagner that this year the SEC will allow ESPN Game Plan to pick up all pay per views games and make those games available outside of the respective school's home state(s) as part of their College Game Plan Package.
This is great for us out of staters, so that whenever LSU is on Tigervision(or even on another SEC schools pay per view) we should be able to view it. |
