Is the SEC Championship really an accomplishment

For those of you who think the SEC Championship is not a BIG PRIZE, take a look at the SEC Championship game.

Georgia which is the number 6 team in the nation is not even in it. I think they would change places with us in a heartbeat.

Florida which is the number 12 team in the nation and has a Hypeman contender at QB, is not in it. I think they would trade places with us in a heartbeat.

This is what every SEC team shoots for every year! Being mentioned as a national title contender is a bonus! I'd rather LSU win the SEC every year than a NT. Again NT would be a great bonus though!

Good post. At the start of each fooball year the goal of each SEC team is to be in The SECCG.

I absolutely agree. If I had to choose between the SEC and the National Championship games, I'd opt for the SECCG every time, because first, at least the contenders are chosen by a sound system, and second, I'd put money that the winner of the SECCG could easily go toe to toe with the winner of the NC game, provided of course that they are a different team.

There is no doubt that playing in the SEC championship game is a major accomplishment. In many years, you could even argue that winning the SEC championship game is nearly equivalent to winning the BCS NC game.

Of course MANY would argue that and rightly so, but they do understand the point of that comment. Players and coaches strive to be the best of the best. Does winning the SEC Championship accomplish this? Perhaps in the minds of some fans.

Right on MT. I'm thankful and appreciative of the fact that we are going to get to watch our team in the SECCG.

Only problem is I don't know if I can take much more of SEC football. In 24 hours I have become an alcoholic and a 3 pack a day smoker.

The SEC Championship actually means MORE than the MNC because it's a REAL championship won in a real, season-long playoff system. I think it's HUGE to be the best team in the nation's best conference!

Change places with us??? We just squandered a game to Houston Nutt and in the process lost the chance to play in the National Championship game. Team moral is low, injuries on defense have reduced our defense to an afterthought, and our coach who was waffling as to whether he wants to jump ship may not have the chance b/c he just demonstrated horrible game preparation and game management skills. Pardon me if I don't raise the champagne glass to toast this occassion as our future suddenly doesn't look nearly as bright as a Georgia or Florida's does.

I've got a question... How come Tebow can play like a hero day in and day out, putting himself as the front runner for the Heisman every game, yet we always use the excuse that we are always banged up, forgetting that Florida plays a pretty tough schedule too? So does he and he is the whole team, just about.

Too bad I can't stand the guy...

Getting to and winning the SECCG is ALWAYS an accomplishment. But this year it wasn't the ultimate goal, but a stepping stone. And that's what hurts. We have the best team in all of college football, but we won't be known as such when the season is over.

Taking off my purple & gold glasses and trying real hard to be objective, I don't think I can agree. Too much inconsistent play down the stretch in all 3 phases of the game.

As long as the Pac 10 and Big 10 don't have conference championship games the winner of the SECCG should be considered AT LEAST equal to the winner of the MNC game. Even Spencer Tillman on CBS is on board the SEC bus.

I really wanted to play Georgia. They are the higher ranked team and right now the better team out of the two opponents. In order to be the best you have to beat the best. Sorry but making a statement is not beating Tenn. Making a statement is going out and dominating a TOP 5 ranked Georgia team. Wanting to play the weaker opponent is not what a championship caliber(sp?) team wants.
