although i might consider tressel and stoops for a list like that, i wouldn't put them as high as they are on there.

mack brown?
before their national championship they were ready to crucify that dude in texas. Bob St.Oops is the rick adelman of college football, he always has about the 3rd or 4th best team in the country every year. Tressell and Carroll benefit from being in weak conferences, albeit they are good coaches, personally if those 2 aren't playing for a national championship year in and year out they have failed, because of their weak competition.

I love Joe Pa but seriously, I thought he was just window dressing these days.

Beamer is about where he should be
Does an extremely good job with recruiting classes that don't necessarily warrant such success On the flipside, he seems to coach/manage the team to a loss that should not have been every single year (e.g., 10-0 lead vs BC with 2 minutes left) Therefore, I would not put him any higher than 6th

They said Ohio St won the 2003 MNC.
I'm having a brain fart...they're saying that Miles has an out of conference loss....who to? I seem to have convienetly forgotten that one.I'm loving that they put Miles over Saban...perfect.

LSU has not had an OOC loss under Les Miles' tenure. A perfect 20-0 record.

I have to go with Urban Meyer #1 and Les Miles and Nick Saban a close 2-3 in whatever order you want to put them in.
All 3 coaches compete for the National Championship year in and year out in the toughest conference in college football. Pete Carroll does manage to lose a game almost every year to an inferior opponent but I give him a close edge over Mack Brown at the #4 slot. Bob Stoops is 1-3 in BCS National Championship games and the Okies suck in BCS bowls too. Jim Tressel at #3 ??? Is that a joke? He is 1-2 in title games with 2 blowouts and the win over Miami is due to a bogus delayed pass interference call against Miami . Both Stoops and Tressel do less with more than any other big time coaches. Frank Beamer is a better coach than either one of them. If he had the resources ain recruiting area of either Oklahoma or Ohio State he would have won a title or 2. Give old JoPa the credit for his lifetime body of work but the you gotta put Bobby Bowden right there with him for the same reason. Chris Peterson may be great coach but until he moves on to a top tier BCS school he shouldn't be considered as top 10 material. Watch out for Butch Davis. If he can come close to equaling at North CCarolina what he did at Miami he will move up the list. If he had sstayed at Miami for 2 more years he would probably have 2 BCS titles

I'm still trying to figure out whether or not 'the only team with 2 losses to win a BCS championship' is a back handed compliment. Oh well, at least Miles is ranked higher than Alabama's coach.
At least when they were slobberin' on USC's nob, they only gave them credit for one national championship; which is how it's supposed to be.

Miles and Saban both belong in the top 5 ahead of Stoops and Tressel with Meyer #1 in my opinion since all three compete in a tougher conference than the others. I also think I'd put Beamer ahead of Mack Brown eventhough he hasn't won an NC yet. All in all, I'm glad Les seems to be getting some respect in this poll and it's sweet to see him ahead of Saban.![]() |
