Did anyone listen to Miles' monday press conf?

i don't know if they put out a transcript for it or what but i listen to most of them, he sounded a little different today. in a good way.

talked about the o line needing to get better.

talked about the great game chad jones had and then immediately said something to the effect of "don't get me wrong, i'm not happy where he is right now, and he's not happy where he is right now..." but continued on to say that he and the whole team need to get better because they understand the competition is getting better really soon.

i don't know if "sense of urgency" is the right word (which is how hanagriff described it) but usually he doesn't give the press very much on where he thinks his team is, it's always we're doing fine and working to get better kind of stuff, but he was more frank today. and the press asked some great questions many of which he didn't sidestep with coachspeak (but alas some he did, he didn't go completely against character.)

just wanted to know if anyone else listened and got the same things i did from it?


edit: also he pretty much admitted he doesn't care about rankings (feinswog's question about do you feel you are coaching the #7 ranked team) but it led to him more or less admitting he has no idea who to vote for in the coaches poll because he doesn't pay attention on saturdays unless its to his team or his opponent. every coach does this, few admit to it.

Yeah, I got the impression that he knows as well as the fans that there's little time left to get ready for the meat of the schedule. I'm sure there's gonna be some real tired players after the next practice. I think he's well aware of what needs to happen, especially the offensive line.

yeah well every week he says we need to get better in ( insert an area) well it better be better if we're going to beat fl ga ala and auburn oh yeah and ole miss----- hell ill definitely take a peach bowl birth if the team continues to play like this against what i deem subpar opponents.

Listened to it, and it frightens me. One thing he said really made me say, oh ****! He mentioned that the running game is struggling. He said it was unacceptable for the weapons on this team to have such a poor ground attack, of course that isnt a word for word quote, but that was what i got out of it.

This means just like Kotter, welcome back I formation. I have a bad feeling that this offense is about to go really simplified. Which is good against some teams, but when we play a good defense, all they will have to do is load 8 or 9 in the box, and make JJ beat them. If you were a team playing against LSU how would run your defense? Load 8 or 9 in the box every play, stop the run game, and force JJ to throw the ball downfield to beat you, bring safety's up, and it would be a long day.

You do realize we have already been running in the I formation a bunch this year and it hasn't really worked because we haven't found a replacement for Quinn Johnson. I think it just means the O line needs to step up and we need to be a bit more creative with our ground attack until a FB decides to that they want to play. This is Les Miles, the I formation is never going to leave the playbook. As long as he has been here, we have had success with it. This is the first year we haven't had a good FB in the formation and the first year we have had trouble with the formation. Have faith in the man.

I know it hasn't left the playbook, but it has been scaled back quite a bit. and i don't really mind using it, if we throw in misdirections, and pulling tackles. The point of the post was because the offense is about to back to be simple and plain, and what he said in that press conference didn't sound like a shot at the O Line, it sounded like a shot at the OC. I have the faith, and i am a positive guy, but this gives me a bad feeling.

Hicks has the flu on top of him coming back from injury which will push him back even further.

Could be that if by then end of the year we don't right this ship on the offesnive side of the ball... Miles could very well spend the off season looking for another OC. This is about the same way he left Oregon.

His reference to Ship was funny..."he's an exciting little sucker ain't he?" Thats classic.
He said some pretty honest things imo, he's aware of the problems, and apparently they've got the defense going in the right direction. I did like how he said he had a few things he wasn't shoing. Hmmm, guess we'll have to see. He's right though... if Chad Jones gets his swagger back, he'll shore up that secondary really nicely.

I don't think Miles will let a last yr happen again due to a coordinator not performing to his standards. Several times in the second half he appeared to be telling GC to open things up. At least thats what it looked like and the announcers thought he was doing.

You guys need to relax. Miles and staff are playing everyone everywhere and winnowing down the best of each. They are evaluating what and who works best and in what situation.

I don't believe that at all. These first 3 games were meant to fool the opposition. No way I believe that in a million years. The teams has problems in specific crucial areas and they are trying to cover it up with there play calling. I don't believe that by Georgia the staff is all of a sudden going to open it up and let loose all these weapons we have. That stuff takes time and it has to be built not only in practice but in actual game time situations. If these problems like running the football better and getting more pressure from the Dline come to fruition, then maybe we start seeing a different offensive philosophy. But for me to believe this is all smoke and mirrors, no not buying that. But I will gladly eat all the crow in the world in 2 weeks after Georgia if proven wrong.

Bhelm, I read somewhere that LSU made a mistake with Hicks in evaulating him and that he doesnt have what it takes to cut it.
I dont remember where I read it. Is this true?
