Default Redding - "The controversy is in the eye of the beholder"

Redding: SEC officiating isn't broke | Solomon's Wisdom - al.com

Quote:
SEC coordinator of offi*cials Rogers Redding said Monday the conference has no comment about a con*troversial instant replay call Saturday that might have prevented LSU from an ap*parent fourth-quarter inter*ception in Alabama's 24-15 win. The SEC commu*nicated its thoughts pri*vately to LSU.

.
.
.
.
"We had a couple bumpy weeks a few weeks ago, and this (Alabama-LSU) play has generated some good commentary," Redding said. "But I don't see this particular play, even though it's generated a lot of fan and media hit, as anything out of the ordi*nary at all. I guess the con*troversy -- if it is this -- is in the eye of the beholder."

This is getting ridiculous. There is time for a change and the time is now. I don't know where the responsibility lands, but it is beginning to stink of corruption.

It would be ashame for the greatest CF conference in the land to loose credibility because of greed. It was the downfall of boxing and it looks like SEC football or maybe CF altogether may be going down the same road.

Les Miles, let me save you the money and make the complaint for you. His … foot … was … down. It’s fine for officials to miss a call on the field, but it’s unforgiveable for replay officials to choke on the obvious. The charmed life of Iowa, er, um, Alabama, continues.

there's a good blurb about florida too.

I'm ashamed to say that the officiating has become a laughing stock in US college football.

Others scoff at claims that the SEC is the toughest conference in BCS football. This kind of repeated biased officiating is beginning to validate their doubts.

One or two games a season would be understandable. But it's happened every weekend that two top 5 SEC teams get together.

Maybe it's time the SEC looks at the top tiers for places to fix the problem.

Denial like this is why speculation is so rampant about a conspiracy.

And the thing is . . . Bama and Florida don't need any help. They are pretty good teams already. Yet every controversial call this season has gone in the favor of the undefeated team.

There is something broken in SEC officiating.

The problem is that it is so bad and they have already made so many mistakes that they simply can't continue to admit to mistakes. It is what it is and I assure you, mike Slive, and this Otis Redding fella are embarassed to have to take this stance but they have determined it is in the best interest of the conference. And they're probably right. It just sucks for us.

exactly. should one of them go on to win the nc, this will give any opponent the right to question whether they should have even been there. to question if they earned it. slive is hurting the conference more than helping it by letting questions stand about officiating.

i disagree. if they simply came out and said they will re-evaluate how refs are graded, or something, anything, then it might help make the conspiracy talk go away. their actions just feed it.

I just think they've said that too much. I honestly believe if this was the first bad call of the year, they would have admitted to the mistake.

Obviously there are a whole bunch of eyes that are beholdin this controversy, with the exception of the SEC and the SEC officials. I guess that just can't see the forest thru the trees due to their own agenda. What's it gonna take for them to fix what the whole country see's as broken?

theyve said too much the wrong direction. if they said they will address concerns that coaches have at the end of the year, review officiating crews, orr something like that, to at least acknowledge that there may be a problem, it wouldnt look like they are sweeping the elephant under the rug.

the way it stands now, it looks like they are just trying to stifle dissent or ignore that there is a problem.

Sure....to us. Look around, we're the only ones still talking about this. The national media has moved on. Had they admitted a mistake, this would be a bigger issue than it is. It's all PR at this point.

I agree. Suspending that official team only made the criticism worse. Now everybody expects the SEC to take action on bad calls and they just do not want to go there.

This crap is nothing new to LSU-Bama. I believe it was the 1968 game which Little Joe broke a 80 yard TD with less than two minutes left in the game. It was called back due to one of the officials not being ready or in his correct spot.
