Gilbert will be a better QB then McCoy IMHO. He looked a little rattled in the first half, but considering the magnitude of the game I think he performed reasonably well in the second half. I hope the turnovers don't get in his head and cause him to be another Jarret Lee

Bama's #3 interfered on every pass play that I saw.

Predicting the future? That injury changed everyone's game plan, just like the 24 to 6 half time lead changed Bama's intensity, unfortunately. If you want to run the football against this defense fine bring your asbestos suit with you. Every dramatic shift in a game will bring out what the other team is made of. You know "for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction". Whatever it took Bama answered those questions.

Bama would have been down 14-0 and playing against an All American QB.

Some people seem to think we're the only program left in a lurch because of poor QB depth. Red touched on it earlier this week in another thread that top QB's don't typically want to go to a school that has recently signed a top QB. That's why there are so many depth problems at that position, in particular. But LSU fans think it's only us. |

His receivers didn't help him at all. After their kicker played dodgeball with the upman on that kickoff there were two catchable balls that were dropped. That was huge and would have gotten them at least close to field goal range. Instead it was 3 and out.

It's hard to predict what would've happended but it does suck when you lose your QB...especially when he's a very good one. I don't think it would've hurt Alabama as badly as their QB is just average. Imagine if Alabama had lost their running game.
We all know it takes a really good team and good fortune to win the title. I believe Alabama has a really good team and no one can argue the great fortune they had this year. I believe the latter is what won them the title this year. I didn't see as much separation from the top 6-8-10 teams this year as in most years. I kept waiting for Alabama, Texas, Florida, etc. to step up and look like THE dominant team this year but nobody ever did. In the end it came down to which team would be fortunate enough to survive. Congrats Coach Shula! You built a winner. ![]()

Yes, he is, but he was a lost lamb out there most of the time last night--albeit with his receivers giving him little help. But I found their receivers, minus Shipley, to be a weak link any time I saw them play this year.

Then what exactly was their calling card? The running game wouldn't have any SEC defenses up at night.

I don't believe it's just us. 2008 was a fluke due to RP being an idiot. I thought the staff gave him ample opportunity to progress as the backup and it showed when we needed him in the SEC Championship. His stupidity and subsequent release cost us several games last year we probably would've won...including against Alabama. It's nearly impossible to resort to your 3rd or 4th option and expect results.
2009 was a different story. JJ looked good against Georgia Tech in the bowl and was expected to improve after a spring with the starters. For whatever reason he didn't appear to make much progress. If you're still trying to improve his skills, how/when can you develop a backup? QB is such an important role and even if you have great recruiting and coaching, you need more good fortune here than any other position.

Calling the timeout before half was damn stupid, too. Run out the clock, get to the locker room and settle your young QB plus change the game plan. They make remarks about the hat... 2nd time in two games Slack has hurt his team. |

Sounds like the spread. Regardless of past success I really didn't follow Texas too much, but I knew in their version of it they like to chunk it. They have speed and it's all about space. I hate the spread.

I live in Dallas and watch them a few times. I felt OU should have beat them as well as Nebraska. The other Big 12 teams lack enough talent to beat them. Reason TX D gave up only 62 YPG on the ground. We saw what a running team could do to them. If Bama had a QB for a passing game, it wouldn't have been as close as it was.
