Default Coach Yano to Memphis?

Rivals is reporting that he took a job as special teams coach. He was bumped from his recruiting coordinator position when Wilson was hired and Yano gets to recruit closer to his base now.

I am expected a TE coach with Texas ties to join the staff if this report is official.

I am a little late on this one...

Thinking over it a little more. Gonzales can coach TEs too so maybe we will finally take a crack at a QB coach with Texas ties. I think Robinson has experience as a TE coach as well.

he should hire a good QB coach and a great game manager, to say hey coach we have 39 seconds left with 2 timeouts, you might want to take one.

Yeah, I always felt for him with his chronic knee issues. He is one of those high IQ guys that may do really well coaching. Will be interesting to follow his progression.

Can Miles coach TEs? Would be the most favorable solution IMO.. allow us to pick up a QB/assistant head coach type to recruit Texas.

1st name I have heard so far:

Quote:
Interesting report from Rivals/Yahoo!'s Tom Dienhart, who put a post on Twitter.com on Thursday afternoon saying that an unnamed source had told him that USF assistant Larry Scott was interviewing for the tight ends job at LSU.

Scott, a former USF offensive lineman, has emerged as arguably the Bulls' top recruiter in the past two seasons, helping USF land top targets such as Kayvon Webster, Terrence Mitchell and Todd Chandler, among others. Losing him, even to an elite national program like LSU, would be a significant blow to USF's recruiting efforts.

Scott, 33, started at USF in 2005 as director of high school relations, then spent a year as a graduate assistant, and was promoted by Jim Leavitt to tight ends coach in 2007. Last year, he was named co-offensive line coach with Mike Simmonds, and he was one of two assistants (so far) retained as part of Skip Holtz's staff, though it's unknown whether he would stay with the offensive line or go back to coaching tight ends.
Could Bulls lose assistant Scott to LSU?

From the SI article in the article you linked it looks like he can recruit, now I hope if he comes he can also coach, especially since he has experience in the OL.

Word going around that Larry Scott had a bad interview.

Football Scoop is saying that Tim Salem out of UCF will interview with LSU.

Coached a little bit of everything with QB coaching experience.

Kind of looks like a guy on the way down doesn't he? Recently demoted from offensive coordinator and RB coach to TE's and special teams at UCF.

I agree, but it looks like he is pretty versatile. He coached everything but the OL at UCF, and has ties to Florida. I trust the staff to make the right decision.

Default Re: Coach Yano to Memphis?

Looks like LSU is not looking to make a fast hire compared to a quality hire. We could see someone in before practice starts but I wouldn't be surprised if we go into Spring practice with one less coach either.

I wonder what this deliberation and lack of hiring a QB coach speaks about Gonzales' role as a coach. It could be that coaching QBs is already covered and Miles wants someone who won't step on Gonzales' toes. Or maybe they want to hire a tight end coach who's really an offensive line coach "in waiting".
