for what it's worth, I'd love to get more threads on college basketball on this board... just not more threads about how our team sucks, or will we ever be good. Let's just talk about hoops...
Here are some examples: Dennis Harris: Does he have to gain weight over the offseason, or can he play 3? Or, does he need to gain weight and play 4? Chris Bass: What's the real issue with his shooting %? Bo Spencer: Is he on the boat, or off the boat? Other SEC programs? Vanderbilt: isn't THAT what recruiting 3 and 4 star players and having them stay for 3 or 4 years, looks like? Alabama: What is the grade that we give to new coach Anthony Grant? Arkansas/Auburn: Coaches on the hotseat? We complain about our team, has Pelphry/Lebo EVER made the NCAA tournament? I'm happy to start to get the hoops momentum going... |

I think that's only because despite having high football IQs....our BBall IQs are collectively very low. Therefore we are mainly interested when we win only. There was a lot more interest last year when we won the SEC. Now, this year, there's a lot less interest because most of us aren't students of the game and don't want to follow basketball because we don't want to be reminded that we a roundball morons.
I am a moron who knows it and am proud of it so I do follow basketball...I just don't know a lot of strategy. I do really enjoy a team acting like a team though...especially when a lesser team beats a group of individuals. Now that's intriguing drama. I think coach Johnson will bring us to that level...soon. I also really enjoy going to basketball games when there's an empty house...I just feel more a part of things when it's that intimate.

Let me see, loves empty stadiums, wouldn't know a pick from a shovel, has very low round ball IQ. ding! ding! ding! congratulations, you my friend do here by qualify as an average SEC basketball fan. No ones to blame, you are simply a victim of a successful and prosperous football program. As humans we can only focus in on one thing at a time and do it justice. Kentucky can more than prove this phenomenon on the other end of the spectrum. It's a modest fan that understands his limitations. I salute you and since I've been reading your post have felt compelled to contribute more to the handicap.

I thank you for the salutation.
I don't mind admitting my ignorance because it's like asking one of those "stupid questions" in class...at first everyone laughs and then when the answer comes 90% of the rest of the class has an epiphany moment when the explanation comes. Privately every one else thinks "Gee I didn't know that!". Maybe Tiger in Hornland can start a thread that is a real basketball primer in which he goes through the positions first...1-5 and gives a tutorial on what physical attributes and responsibilities are ideally important to each position...and then breaks down LSU's players at that position their strengths and weaknesses, etc Then he can maybe fill the rest of us in on what type of offense we run and why other offensive schemes are not suited for our team besed on our players' skill sets. The same for the defense...why we are weak or strong, and what next year's recruits may add to the dimension. Maybe even he can break down our opponents schemes the week before we play them...a scouting report of sorts. I know that if he does...the rest of us will make that thread(s) one of the most read ones and I bet a lot of great questions will be evoked from our collective thought. Tiger in Hornland, if you feel up to it...It will definitely be appreciated. When I'm training cooks to work with me, I assume they know nothing and when I'm going through the basics, I get a lot of good feedback from even experienced cooks. Sometimes they also teach me a thing or two...or at least give me food for thought.
